The full LAN Workplace package includes a SLIP/PPP driver. I have
used it; it works well. It installs just like a network card driver;
you load an extra .COM file in your AUTOEXEC, and add lines to your
NET.CFG to configure it (or let the installation program add the lines
for you).
The client kit does not include the SLIP/PPP driver.
If you get LAN Workplace, make sure to get two update files for it:
LWP41N.EXE and LWP168.EXE. The latter includes a version of Winsock that
actually works. It is possible that these files are now included in the
red boxes, but the most recent red boxes I have seen do not include them.
The files can be downloaded from NetWire on CompuServe or FTPed from
ftp.novell.com; they can also be found on the Novell Support Encyclopedia
Professional Edition.

I've had the same problem today. QVT doesn't need to know the
IP address from a config file as it can get it from Winsock.
As I'm running QVT from a read-only network drive I found the
easiest solution was to copy the .HLP and .INI file to a directory
on the hard disc, and run a small C program when the computer
boots that rewrites the .INI file with the new IP address (I'm
using bootp to get the IP address).
I can forward you that program if it is appropriate to your
configuration (I'm using FTP's bootp).
Does anyone know of a good telnet program out there, other
than wintel or QVT?
